We all dream of our ‘Happy Ever After‘.
We see it on films so quite rightly that’s what we expect will happen in real life.
The scene is set…..rose petals strategically placed into the shape of a heart, champagne chilling next to the fine food on the table, soft music playing in the background, dimmed lights and then finally your partner gets down on one knee and asks you ‘that’ question… Will You Mary Me?
Well that didn’t quite happen to one Reddit user ‘marrymonay‘ when her boyfriend proposed to her.
The 24-year-old started to explain her story…
“He walks in the door from work and tells me about how his friend got married at city hall today, so he started looking into some things.”
“He sets his laptop out on the table and shows me the spreadsheet he made about how much additional income us getting married would bring in for him, and explained that there was really no risk involved in case of divorce because we could just sign prenups.”
“And he was like ‘so, do you want to go get married? We can do it literally anytime at the city hall.” And then said “So how about it?”.
“I was just like “oh okay”, because I thought he was just sort of talking. And he was like “So do you want to go get married? We can do it literally anytime at the city hall?” And then I realized what he was actually asking and asked him if he was asking me to marry him and he said yes and I told him no, and so it ensued from there.”
“I don’t want to break up with him or anything like that at all. I just feel a bit disrespected that he seemingly just wanted to marry me for the money and even threw divorce into the conversation. Then he got hurt that I said no and I can’t seem to be able to get him to understand how what he did was hurtful and why I said no. Maybe I’m being too sensitive idk.”
And they say romance is dead…
