Twitter’s 140 character limit may soon be a thing of the past.

Micro-blogging site Twitter, notoriously known for it’s 140 character limit, are thought to be making some big changes within the next couple of weeks.

At present, multimedia such as photos, links and videos count towards the character limit, which in turn can leave you with a limited amount of text. Their plan is not to include these in the 140 character limits.

There have been a series of tweaks to Twitter recently as the company tries to boost engagement. They’ve removed the 140 character limit to their Direct Messages, and changed the shape of Twitter’s ‘favourite’ icon from a star to a heart.

Their Chief Executive Officer Jack Dorsey said the company was looking for ways for users to be able to post longer pieces of text on Twitter but still keeping the 140 character limit which is what the site originally represented.  He quoted “It’s staying. It’s a good constraint for us and it allows for of-the-moment brevity.”

I for one welcome this change and hopefully other users will too.  What are your thoughts? Do you like the changes? Let us know via our Twitter page.

Happy days
